Adderall XR was too much for me. It really knocked out my appetite and made me hypoglycemic and therefore very cranky. It was also very expensive. I am now on the short acting adderall and am only taking about 1 to 1/2 a 10 mg pill every 4-6 hours. This is enough for my build (120 lbs), and I feel like I can concentrate on school work and other projects when I need to, and take a break from the meds at night and on the weekend. I only plan on using it during school because inbetween undergrad and veterinary medical school, when I had a highly active teaching job, I was fine and needed no medication. I felt that my ADD actually helped me be a more spontaneous, active teacher. I'm excited about veterinary medicine because it is also a very active job with constant variety to keep me busy. I think for people with ADD, lifestyle changes supported by small doses of ADD is the best option. At least this is what is working for me.
